WE United celebrated the North American Working Equitation Championship at the Horse Park in Del Mar, California October 11-13, 2019. With over 77 entries, the event was the largest WE Championship held to date on the continent (we’ve had some larger shows, but none where all entries had to qualify in order to compete).

Horse/rider teams danced through Dressage and Ease of Handling trials before racing for the finish in the Speed trial. As the sun set on the final day of competition, the 2019 North American Champions were crowned.

Reflecting on what she particularly liked about the event, Sarah Pinney, Intermediate A Champion, wrote: “I really enjoyed the camaraderie of the people–having the progressive party where we all got to mingle was wonderful, gave us a chance to enjoy and get to know each other even better, and fostered goodwill and friendship. I was impressed with the quality of the obstacles themselves– beautiful. Everybody was so positive and supportive of each other–heartwarming. Everyone pitched in and helped out. Loved the Judges–thought they were fair and a nice representation of our officials.”

Suzanne Vliestra, who competed at the Novice A level, noted that the event had “A great enthusiastic vibe with a positive attitude for everyone prevailed.”
